Shared Care Record Achieves Time and Cost Savings

At a time of intense pressure on NHS resources, the Yorkshire and Humber Care Record (YHCR) is helping to contribute to financial savings across the health and care sector. And it is all powered by Interweave.

Figures just released by the South Yorkshire Shared Care Record (SYSCR) Programme reveal an estimated £370,000 savings in the first quarter of 2025-26 (April-June 2025).

The savings have been costed by assessing the benefits being realised by partner organisations which have adopted the shared care record platform. These benefits include: a reduction in admin time in admitting people in emergency departments, a reduction in the time spent by local authority staff in sourcing client information from GPs and Trusts, and time savings for staff in NHS settings sourcing patient information.

Savings have also been realised by phasing out support from 1 April 2025 for the integrated Doncaster Care Record (iDCR) which duplicated some of the features of the YHCR.

Amy Empson, SYSCR Benefits Lead, said: “It is still early days for the programme but these first quarter figures show the potential that the YHCR has in making working lives easier and more productive. With more data being added into the YHCR all the time and more users logging on month-on-month, we can only expect these financial savings to grow over time.”

The YHCR is being rolled out via the SYSCR Programme, part of the national Connecting Care Records initiative. Currently, there are 13 local NHS organisations and local authorities, as well as all GP practices, involved in advancing the programme in South Yorkshire, across the Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield areas.

The YHCR brings together people’s separate records into a structured format. This gives health and care professionals directly involved in an individual’s care a more complete view of the care and treatment that an individual has received across all services. The shared care record platform securely connects information from hospitals, GPs, mental health services and social care providers, ensuring professionals have the most up-to-date information when they need it.
