Council Colleagues Speak of Benefits in Using the LLR Care Record

A series of interviews have been held with members of staff at Leicestershire County Council on their views of the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR) Care Record, powered by Interweave.

The LLR Care Record is bringing together people’s separate health and care records into a structured, easy-to-read format all in one secure place. It joins up information based on the individual rather than one organisation.

Colleagues from the council involved in the interviews included representatives from adult social care, learning disabilities and autism, and hospital discharge services.

The LLR Care Record programme team was delighted to hear of the overall favourable response to using the Care Record. Quotes from staff included: “We have been crying out for this… It’s brilliant to have. It is a game changer in our area.”
Benefits mentioned for staff in using the LLR Care Record included:
• Saving time for colleagues in accessing information and removing the need to make phone calls (for example, to GP practices) to find out more information about a person’s care
• Gaining a broader understanding of an individual requesting care and making it easier and quicker to direct them to the most appropriate source of support
• Knowing where a person is on their care pathway so that support can be provided at the best time for them.

In addition, interviewees were able to provide the LLR Care Record programme team with a number of suggestions to further improve the Care Record.

Laura Godtschalk, LLR Care Record programme lead, said: “This was a really useful set of interviews to help us better understand how members of staff in the local authority are using the LLR Care Record and we were delighted to hear of the many benefits that people are experiencing. It was also an opportunity for constructive feedback as we look to further improve the offer to staff across all partner organisations. We would like to thank everyone who took part in the user interviews for their valuable contributions.”

The LLR Care Record is now live for more than 5,000 users. It has been rolled out across adult social care in Leicester City Council, Leicestershire County Council and Rutland County Council, and to East Midlands Ambulance Service. Rollout is progressing in Leicestershire Partnership Trust, University Hospitals of Leicester, Patient Care Locally CIC, and pilot usage in GP practices (Forest House, Ibstock and Woodbridge), LOROS hospice and community pharmacies.
