New Vision for the South Yorkshire Shared Care Record Programme

At Interweave, we are proud to host the Yorkshire & Humber Care Record (YHCR) and to see partners in South Yorkshire bringing their shared care record journey onto a single platform using the YHCR.

The South Yorkshire Shared Care Record (SYSCR) programme is currently overseeing convergence to a common shared care record platform for the region, bringing people’s health and care records held across different organisations into one place.

For many years, South Yorkshire has benefited from two Place-based records – the Rotherham Health Record (RHR) and the Integrated Doncaster Care Record (IDCR) – alongside the more recent YHCR, which spans the whole Integrated Care System (ICS) area and beyond. However, with recent advances being made in delivering the wider YHCR platform, running three different platforms no longer makes sense.

The IDCR was closed down in March 2025, and following agreement from the Rotherham Place Executive Team (RPET) and partner organisations, the programme will phase out the RHR next summer.

Work is underway to move all existing RHR users over to the YHCR by the end of February 2026. There will be an interim period between February and June 2026 when access to the RHR will be maintained to ensure access to all data currently available in the RHR. Once all data feeds are complete in the YHCR, access to the RHR will be removed at the end of June 2026.

There are significant benefits to be realised in moving to a single platform. The YHCR is used across the whole of Yorkshire – so users can see the wider picture in someone’s care, for example, if they have received care or treatment in West Yorkshire or North Yorkshire and the Humber. As more information is fed in, this picture will continue to become more detailed and beneficial.

Its adoption will help support a standardised system across South Yorkshire so users will have the same experience whether they are working in the Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham or Sheffield areas. Furthermore, it will end the duplication of existing spend on different systems attempting to do the same thing, an important factor in this challenging financial climate. This will free up resource to make the YHCR as useful, relevant and comprehensive as possible to all the local system partners.
