More GP Practices Set to Access the LLR Care Record

The Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR) Care Record, powered by Interweave, has taken another big step forward with the addition of GP practices that use the EMIS Web health record system.

GP practices tend to use different health record software systems with the majority locally using SystmOne – which is already linked into the LLR Care Record.

This new development will open up access to more professionals working in primary care settings, further enhancing the use and benefits of shared care records in LLR.

Tom Howe, Digital Implementation and Technical Lead at Market Harborough and Bosworth Partnership, said:

“The LLR Care Record has significantly improved the way our practice accesses important patient information. Previously, obtaining details from other services often meant spending valuable time trying to contact different departments by phone, which could delay decision-making and patient care.

“With the integration of the LLR Care Record into EMIS Web, much of this information is now readily available within the patient record. This allows clinicians and staff to quickly view relevant data from across the local health system in one place, supporting more efficient workflows, reducing the need for time-consuming phone calls, and enabling better informed, timely care for our patients.”

The LLR Care Record joins up people’s health and care records across the NHS and local authorities. It means information recorded about someone’s health and care such as illnesses, medications and hospital admissions can be accessed by different people who are directly involved in their care. Hospitals, GPs and other health and care workers have always tended to have separate records – the LLR Care Record allows the data from these to be seen in one place.

Four GP EMIS Web practices are now able to access the LLR Care Record, with more practices having the option to follow these pilot sites.

Sandra Taylor, LLR Care Record Programme Manager, said:

“By adding EMIS Web GP practices to be able to access shared care records, more primary care teams can now support their patients by ensuring they can access the most appropriate care quicker.

“Primary care roles such as care coordinators can be tasked with a lot of the ‘finding out’ jobs that step outside of the usual notifications flowing automatically into GP practices. These may include, for example in relation to social care support, the need to find out what support equipment a person may have at home, or whether a hospital appointment has already been made.”

In a survey of EMIS GP practice staff who had received training in the LLR Care Record, the most anticipated benefit to be gained from using the shared care record was ‘quicker end-to-end processes’. Staff also thought that they would save time from phoning and emailing and that the LLR Care Record would help improve the patient experience.
