Meet the Expert Simplifying Information Governance for Interweave Partners

When an organisation begins its onboarding journey with Interweave, one of the most important areas to navigate is Information Governance (IG). Shared Care Records bring together data from multiple systems and partners, which means organisations need clear assurance that information is being handled securely, legally and responsibly at every stage. This is often one of the most complex parts of onboarding, requiring detailed understanding of regulations and standards across health and care.

Interweave understands the importance of this element for organisations and thanks to actively listening to feedback have made the process smoother and more effective. A key element to this was the introduction of dedicated Information Governance (IG) resource into the team. Suzi Hinman joined the Interweave team in 2024, having worked in IG for many years, most recently for Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust who manage and develop Interweave. As an NHS-owned product, Interweave truly understands the needs of its partners and experience the same barriers, allowing them to be agile when working towards solutions.

A dedicated IG resource means that rather than piecing together advice from different places or relying on local teams to interpret requirements, there is now a clear and consistent point of guidance available throughout the onboarding journey.  Suzi supports the onboarding process but doesn’t disappear when onboarding is complete. Her support remains a consistent back up thereafter for all partner organisations. She can explain what’s needed, why it matters and how to achieve compliance in a way that aligns with national standards while recognising local considerations.

Suzi said, “IG should not be a hurdle in health and care, its purpose should always be to facilitate data sharing and improve patient care safely and responsibly. Being Interweave’s dedicated IG Advisor means that I can be a strategic partner to organisations and to our ICBs, embedding safe and consistent data sharing practices into the onboarding process without slowing momentum.”

“I can ensure that any developments in Interweave technology follow the Data Protection by Design and Default approach, ensuring the security of our products and reducing the potential for delays later in a project. Finally, as the privacy landscape is ever evolving and patients may choose to exercise their rights at any time, I am available to support organisations and partners post-onboarding with any queries which may arise.”

The benefits of this role are significant. Organisations can have confidence they’re meeting the highest standards of data protection and information security while reducing the burden on their own teams. It also helps accelerate the onboarding process by removing unnecessary delays and providing clarity where uncertainty might otherwise hold up progress. Perhaps most importantly, it ensures consistency across all organisations adopting Interweave, creating a level playing field where everyone benefits from the same high-quality approach to Information Governance.

By investing in a dedicated IG resource, Interweave has strengthened the foundations of its Shared Care Record. Organisations onboarding can feel assured that the complexities of IG are not a barrier, but a well-supported part of the journey. This not only builds trust in the process but also helps to unlock the wider benefits of integrated care more quickly and confidently.
